BLM Approves Year-Round Radio Site to Boost Emergency Response in NV

New Communication Site to Enhance Emergency Response in Nevada

A significant boost to emergency response operations is on the horizon for the Carson City and Battle Mountain Districts in Nevada. The Bureau of Land Management’s Stillwater Field Office has greenlighted a new year-round radio communications site at New Pass, designed to enhance radio coverage for various critical services.

The approved plan involves installing a small, prefabricated communications shelter equipped with a 20-foot mast and solar-powered equipment. These components will be placed on four above-ground concrete pads, ensuring minimal environmental disruption as no excavation is required. The entire setup will utilize existing access roads, and the installation process is expected to be completed within a single day once the project receives formal authorization.

This development aims to significantly improve communication capabilities for BLM Fire Operations, Law Enforcement, and Recreation programs in regions where reliable service is currently lacking. The project adheres to federal land-use plans and has been granted approval through a Categorical Exclusion, confirming that it poses no substantial threat to natural, cultural, or wildlife resources.
