New Gold and Silver Mine Approved in Elko County
Located about 25 miles southwest of Elko, Nevada, a new gold and silver mine has been given the green light by the Bureau of Land Management. The South Railroad Mine Project, led by Gold Standard Ventures (US) Inc., promises to enhance local employment opportunities while bolstering the U.S. supply of precious metals over the next 16 years.
The project spans approximately 4,624 acres of BLM-managed public land and 3,924 acres of private land. Within this area, there will be a temporary surface disturbance of 1,267 acres and a permanent disturbance covering 503 acres. The construction phase is anticipated to create jobs for up to 600 individuals, while 300 people will be employed full-time once the mine becomes operational.
Mining initiatives such as this one are crucial in supporting domestic mineral production, which plays a significant role in the country’s economic health and national security. This project aligns with Executive Order 14241. According to the order, “The United States possesses vast mineral resources that can create jobs, fuel prosperity, and significantly reduce our reliance on foreign nations…It is imperative for our national security that the United States take immediate action to facilitate domestic mineral production to the maximum possible extent.”
