Bureau of Land Management Approves Modifications at Cortez Mine
BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given the green light to alterations in the Cortez mine operations, expanding activities by 14 acres and modifying existing operations south of Crescent Valley in Lander and Eureka Counties.
This decision permits Nevada Gold Mines, LLC, to adjust its current operations plan. The modifications include reconfiguring facilities to enhance the management of water, sediment, and other process fluids. Additionally, infrastructure developments such as a new water line, a wider haul road, and a new power line are set to improve safety and decrease truck traffic between the Cortez and Goldrush mines.
This project is aligned with President Trump’s Executive Order 14241, titled “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production.” The order is designed to bolster domestic mineral production, lessen U.S. dependence on foreign minerals, and generate employment opportunities.
