Celebrating Academic and Athletic Achievements at NAU
Recognizing the remarkable accomplishments of faculty, staff, and students, Northern Arizona University (NAU) celebrates various achievements this week. Here’s a highlight of their inspiring contributions and successes.

- Deliyon Freeman, a standout defense back, has been honored as the Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week. His exceptional performance was crucial in securing a 38-28 win against the University of Incarnate Word last Saturday.
- Professor Sam Minkler from the School of Communication received a second-place award for his exhibit at the Santa Fe Indian Market, awarded by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA). His award-winning photograph captures a stork gracefully skimming across Lake Mary, highlighting the beauty of pictorialism and reflective water. Minkler emphasizes that his art aims to raise awareness about the overconsumption of natural resources and honors the rich history of indigenous people in northern Arizona.
- Assistant Professor Sun Kim, also from the School of Communication, has co-authored a significant article titled Asian Celebrity Voices Against Anti-Asian Racism: An Experiment with Young Adults. Published in Mass Communication and Society, the study explores how Asian celebrities’ involvement in social activism can enhance Gen Z’s support for anti-Asian racism policies.
- Professor Yang Jie from The W. A. Franke College of Business contributed insights in a WalletHub article on zero-based budgeting. Featured in the Ask the Experts section, Yang Jie discusses who benefits from zero-based budgeting and offers strategies for achieving optimal results.
