Anticipation grows as Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett prepares to engage with the academic community at the University of Virginia. Set to visit next month, Barrett continues a recent tradition of Supreme Court justices sharing insights on Grounds.
The event, hosted by the Karsh Institute of Democracy alongside the UVA School of Law’s Karsh Center for Law and Democracy, will feature a discussion about Barrett’s latest publication, “Listening to the Law: Reflections on the Court and Constitution.” This engaging conversation is scheduled for September 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Culbreth Theatre. This visit follows Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appearance at Old Cabell Hall last year, as well as Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.’s acceptance of the Jefferson Medal in the Rotunda Dome Room five months ago, marking a notable year for the university with visits from three Supreme Court justices.
Appointed by President Donald Trump, Barrett was confirmed as an associate justice in 2020. Her academic journey includes an undergraduate degree from Rhodes College in 1994, followed by a law degree from Notre Dame Law School in 1997.
Barrett’s book offers a glimpse into her judicial responsibilities and daily experiences, discussing topics ranging from her decision-making processes to handling media attention, as described by publisher Penguin Random House.
