Drake University Launches Data Analytics Program at Ciudad del Saber

Drake University Joins Ciudad del Saber as New Affiliated Member with Innovative Program

Drake University, a prestigious U.S. private institution, is expanding its global footprint by launching a new educational program in Panama. In partnership with Ciudad del Saber, the university will offer a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics with a minor in Artificial Intelligence at its new location in Panama City. Students can either complete this accelerated program in three years or opt for a “2+2” program, finishing their studies at Drake’s U.S. campus in Des Moines. Applications will open in August 2026, with classes commencing in August 2027.

“This program is built to meet the growing demand for data analysts and artificial intelligence experts worldwide,” said Drake University President, Marty Martin. “With Drake’s deep and long-standing ties to the Republic of Panama, a demand for professionals that is outpacing the global talent pipeline, and Panama’s position as a thriving hub for the global supply chain, we couldn’t be more excited to bring this highly in-demand program to fruition at Ciudad del Saber.”

Program Options

Students have two pathways to a Drake degree. The first option allows students to complete all their studies in Panama, achieving a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics with a minor in Artificial Intelligence in three years and one summer, including an internship with a key Panamanian company.

The second option involves spending the initial two years at the Ciudad del Saber campus, focusing on liberal arts, data analytics, and AI, before transferring to the U.S. campus. This track provides opportunities to explore additional fields and secure U.S. internships through the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, with a potential two-year STEM extension.

Drake University has a strong history in these fields, being among the first U.S. institutions to offer degrees in data analytics and AI. Its graduates experience a high return on investment, with data analytics graduates in 2023 earning an average salary of $74,000 within a year of graduation.

Students will access state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant community, including NGOs, tech startups, and research institutions. The campus offers ample amenities such as parks, dining, and shopping at La Plaza, as well as cultural events and housing options.

“At Ciudad del Saber, we are committed to elevating Panama’s academic landscape by attracting world-class higher education institutions,” said Jorge Arosemena Román, executive president, Ciudad del Saber Foundation. “Drake University brings immense value through a cutting-edge program focused on Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. This initiative will empower local talent, build critical capabilities, and contribute meaningfully to our country’s development.”

Strengthening Panama Ties

Drake University has a longstanding relationship with Panama, engaging in study abroad and internship programs, and counting several notable Panamanian alumni. The university is partnering with major Panamanian companies for internship opportunities, including Motta Internacional, Banco General, and Panamá Pacífico. A recent agreement with Panama’s National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Senacyt) aims to support the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
