As the week unfolds, a significant milestone is being celebrated in Virginia’s political history. Abigail Spanberger, an alumna of the University of Virginia, is set to be inaugurated as the state’s first female governor, marking a transformative moment in the state’s leadership.
Spanberger not only makes history as the first woman to hold this prestigious position but also holds the distinction of being the first University of Virginia graduate to assume the role since Jim Gilmore, a Republican, took office in 1998.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at noon, where Spanberger will take the oath of office. Adding to the historic occasion, her husband, Adam, also a UVA graduate, will become Virginia’s inaugural first gentleman. Coverage of the inauguration will be featured by UVA Today, with an article set to be published online on Tuesday and highlighted in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Report email.
