Governor Shapiro, German Ambassador Sign Agreement on Workforce, Economy

Pennsylvania and Germany Forge Partnership to Bolster Workforce and Economic Growth

In a significant move to enhance workforce capabilities and economic development, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and German Ambassador Emily Margarethe Haber have signed a collaborative agreement. This agreement, known as the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI), aims to share best practices and expand opportunities in vocational and career technical education (CTE) between Pennsylvania and Germany.

The partnership reflects a mutual commitment to skills-based workforce development, focusing on improving access to apprenticeships and vocational training. Governor Shapiro emphasized, “Our collaboration with Germany will unlock new opportunities for Pennsylvanians and ensure our workforce remains competitive in the global market.”

Germany, renowned for its robust vocational education and training (VPET) system, offers a model that Pennsylvania seeks to emulate. The agreement outlines various areas of collaboration, from sharing expertise in vocational training systems to expanding educational exchanges. Ambassador Haber stated, “This partnership strengthens our ties and offers a pathway to economic growth and innovation.”

The JDI is expected to benefit both regions by fostering economic development and addressing workforce challenges. With a focus on skill enhancement and industry alignment, the initiative promises to create a more agile and skilled workforce. The collaboration marks a strategic effort to prepare for future economic demands by equipping individuals with relevant and practical skills.
