Celebrate Fatherhood at the D.A.D. Baby Shower in South Phoenix

In a unique pre-Father’s Day celebration, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is set to host a community baby shower, specifically aimed at fathers with young children under two and those expecting. This initiative emphasizes the critical support systems available for fathers taking on new parenting roles.

“While parenthood can be a deeply joyful and rewarding experience, it can also come with its fair share of challenges,” commented Supervisor Steve Gallardo of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 5. He emphasized the importance of events like this in reminding fathers that seeking help and accessing community resources is perfectly acceptable.

The event, orchestrated by MCDPH’s South Phoenix Healthy Start (SPHS) program, is called the D.A.D. (Disciplined, Attentive, Diligent Fathers) Baby Shower. It aims to honor fathers while equipping them with resources pertinent to their roles. Scheduled for June 13, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the South Mountain Community Center, the event is free and open to families.

“Dads play a crucial role in kids’ lives, and we’re excited to bring together resources to help dads to thrive in this role,” noted Meloney Baty, the South Phoenix Healthy Start Program Supervisor. She highlighted the convenience of the event, which collates vital services to assist fathers juggling multiple responsibilities.

Available Resources

  • Classes: Offerings include parenting techniques through Nurturing Fathers, water safety by Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and nutrition guidance from WIC.
  • Vendors: Attendees can explore mental health support and career training opportunities aimed at securing livable wages.
  • Community Connection: Fathers will have the chance to connect with peers seeking similar support and companionship.
  • Family Activities: The event will feature games, giveaways, music, and more to engage the entire family.

Prospective attendees are encouraged to RSVP online or by calling (602) 320-2724 by June 11, 2026.

“Parents have a variety of needs, just like their kids do,” Baty added. “Public Health and our partners are here to support dads, even before their children are born.”
