The WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester was a hub of excitement on Thursday as hundreds gathered to mark the conclusion of Delaware County’s largest philanthropic day. The third annual Delco Gives event saw over 12,000 donors contributing an impressive $2.4 million to 324 nonprofit organizations, surpassing previous years’ efforts.
While donations continue to be counted until Monday, the Foundation for Delaware County, which hosts the event, anticipates an even greater total. Michael Kellerman, president of the Foundation, expressed satisfaction with the event’s impact, saying, “The numbers speak for themselves in terms of impact and it’s our job to just keep the energy flowing.”
Kellerman characterized the initiative as “collective action philanthropy,” emphasizing the power of unified community efforts. “When we come together and use one voice and the foundation provides — the platform, the organization, the megaphone for that voice — we’re able to reach far more people,” he explained.

The festivities commenced on Wednesday, aligning with the return of Dining Under the Stars in Media, a weekly outdoor summer dining festival. State Street was transformed into a pedestrian-friendly zone filled with music, dance, and an announcement to kick off the online donation period.
To further raise awareness, the Foundation organized community tailgates on Thursday morning at locations like Villanova University and Veterans Memorial in Newtown Square.
“Every amount makes a difference,” Kellerman emphasized, highlighting the importance of every contribution.
Originally planned for Rose Tree Park in Media, the closing celebration moved to Chester due to past weather issues. Chester Mayor Stefan Roots noted the benefits of holding the event locally, acknowledging, “Chester is rich in some nonprofit organizations and they’re benefiting from the Delco Gives. They like being close to home too.”
