State Health Plan Launches Teacher Ambassadors Program to Enhance Educator Support

Raleigh, N.C.

In a bid to foster stronger ties with educators and raise awareness about available health benefits, the State Health Plan has unveiled a new initiative during Teacher Appreciation Week. This effort aims to enhance communication and understanding of health resources among teachers.

Naming it the Teacher Ambassadors Program, the initiative enlists educators as key communicators within their schools. These ambassadors will disseminate timely updates regarding the Plan’s benefits, wellness programs, and other resources, empowering their peers through direct communication to make knowledgeable healthcare choices.

“Clear, consistent communication is essential to ensuring our members get the most value from their health plan,” stated State Treasurer Brad Briner at Clayton High School. He emphasized the importance of the program, noting, “By partnering directly with teachers, we’re building a stronger, more informed network that supports educators in making smarter health care decisions for themselves and their families.”

Participants in the program will receive exclusive communication tools, such as targeted emails and webinar invitations, to further aid their colleagues in understanding and optimizing their health benefits.

According to Tom Friedman, Plan Executive Administrator, “This idea came directly from teacher feedback, which has been invaluable as we work to better engage our members.” Friedman highlighted the challenge of communicating with over 750,000 members and sees this program as a significant step towards improving those connections.

The State Health Plan serves a diverse group, providing healthcare coverage to over 750,000 individuals, including teachers, state employees, retirees, lawmakers, and university and community college staff, along with their dependents.
