Public Invited to Review Plans for Independence Boulevard Upgrades
CHARLOTTE – Residents and commuters in the Charlotte area have an opportunity to get involved in discussions about proposed enhancements to Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74), a key route connecting Interstate 277 in uptown Charlotte to Interstate 485 in Matthews.
Addressing the growing congestion along this vital corridor, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking public input on the planned improvements. The project aims to ease traffic flow and enhance connectivity between Charlotte, Matthews, and Union County. Detailed project maps and additional information can be accessed on the NCDOT Public Input website, which showcases the ultimate corridor design and segment-specific maps.
A public meeting is set for Tuesday, July 23, from 4-7 p.m. at East Mecklenburg High School’s cafeteria, located at 600 Monroe Road in Charlotte. This drop-in style session allows attendees to engage with NCDOT representatives at their convenience, as there will be no formal presentation.
For those unable to attend, feedback can be submitted in writing, via email, or by phone until August 9. All comments will be evaluated and considered as part of the ongoing development process.
To share feedback or obtain further details, individuals can email US74-Improvements@publicinput.com or call 984-205-6615, Code 1306. Comments can also be mailed to Bryan Key, NCDOT Project Development Team Lead, at 1582 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1582.
The NCDOT is committed to ensuring accessibility and will provide necessary aids and services as per the Americans with Disabilities Act for individuals with disabilities wishing to participate in the meeting. Those needing special accommodations should contact Diane Wilson at 919-707-6073 or pdwilson1@ncdot.gov to arrange appropriate services.
Spanish speakers with limited English proficiency can request interpretive services before the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
