BLM to Close Part of High Rock Canyon Road for Conservation Efforts

High Rock Canyon Road Closure Scheduled to Protect Wildlife and Preserve Trails

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management has announced a vehicle use closure on a portion of High Rock Canyon Road, a key area within the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area.

The section affected by this closure extends from the canyon’s southern entrance to approximately five miles below Stevens Camp. This closure is set to take effect after the conclusion of the Chukar hunting season, specifically from Monday, February 3, through Friday, May 9, 2025.

Black Rock Field Manager Jonah Blustain highlighted the purpose of this measure, stating, “This closure is meant to prevent damage to the emigrant trail and reduce disturbance of wildlife including for lambing bighorn sheep and nesting raptors.”
