Navy Instructor Found Deceased at Norfolk Base

A somber mood has enveloped Naval Station Norfolk following the discovery of a deceased Navy instructor within the base’s training facilities. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

The individual, identified as Fire Controlman (Aegis) 1st Class Alonzo Tablet Martin, Jr., was a member of the Surface Combat Systems Training Command Detachment Middle Atlantic. His body was located in the command’s building, though further details concerning the circumstances are currently unavailable.

Cmdr. Laura Stegherr, a spokesperson for the Naval Education and Training Command, conveyed the Navy’s condolences and support, stating, “The Navy mourns the loss of our shipmate and sends condolences to FCA1 Martin’s family, friends and fellow Sailors during this difficult time.” To aid those affected, grief-counseling services and support are being offered through Naval Station Norfolk’s Fleet and Family Support Center and chaplain.

Martin hailed from Missouri and commenced his naval career in 2015. His previous postings included assignments in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dahlgren, Virginia, and Illinois before his time at the Norfolk base.
