Controlled Burn Planned to Mitigate Wildfire Risks Near Gardnerville, NV
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Carson City is preparing to undertake a prescribed burn of 209 acres of slash piles in the Pinenut Mountains, located east of Gardnerville, Nevada. This initiative is scheduled to occur between January 6 and April 30, 2026, contingent on favorable weather and fuel conditions.
According to Jonathan Palma, Fire Management Officer, the purpose of the burn is to “reduce the amount fuels available to a potential future wildfire, creating a strategic roadside fuelbreak along Pinenut Road.”
BLM’s wildland fire resources will be present to oversee the operation, which is expected to span 15-20 days, depending on stable weather conditions.
