U.S. Forces Capture Venezuelan Leader in Swift Military Operation
In a bold military maneuver, the United States has successfully captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Spearheaded by President Donald Trump, this operation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, culminating in Maduro’s capture for trial in the United States.
Details of the Covert Operation
President Trump, speaking on “Fox and Friends Weekend,” revealed that the nighttime operation led to Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, being transported by helicopter to a U.S. warship. The Venezuelan president was heavily guarded within a palace referred to as a “fortress,” but was unable to reach a safe room before being apprehended.
To prepare for potential obstacles, U.S. forces were equipped with “massive blowtorches” to cut through steel walls, had Maduro sought refuge in a fortified area. Trump detailed that the troops had even practiced on a replica of the Venezuelan palace.
Executing the Mission in the Dark
The mission was executed under the cover of darkness, with Trump stating the U.S. managed to turn off “almost all of the lights in Caracas.” Seven explosions were reported in the capital, and the entire operation was concluded in under 30 minutes.
According to Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, the operation resulted in casualties among both Venezuelan civilians and military personnel.
Minimal U.S. Casualties Reported
While a few U.S. operatives sustained injuries, Trump confirmed that no lives were lost on the American side, despite a helicopter being significantly damaged. “A couple of guys were hit, but they came back and they’re supposed to be in pretty good shape,” Trump stated.
Weather Delays and Strategic Timing
Weather played a crucial role in the timing of the operation. Trump noted that the mission was delayed for several days due to unfavorable weather conditions, waiting for the “perfect” moment to proceed.
Maduro’s Future in the U.S.
Following their capture, Maduro and Flores are expected to be transported to New York to face charges related to an alleged narco-terrorism conspiracy, as indicated by an indictment from the Justice Department.
Background of Military Tensions
This recent operation follows a series of U.S. military strikes targeting drug-related activities in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean. Since early September, these strikes have resulted in significant casualties and damage to infrastructure believed to be linked to Venezuelan drug cartels.
In a notable incident on December 29, the U.S. carried out a drone strike on a facility used for drug trafficking, marking the first direct operation on Venezuelan soil within this series of military actions.
