BLM Seeks Public Comments on 2026 Clan Alpine Horse Gather Plan

BLM Seeks Public Input on Clan Alpine Horse Management Strategy

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Stillwater Field Office in Carson City, Nevada, has released a Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA) document for public review regarding the 2026 Clan Alpine Horse Gather. This document, which is open for public comment until October 25, 2026, builds on an environmental analysis completed in September 2023.

The proposed gather is designed to address the issue of excess wild horses located within and around the Clan Alpine Herd Management Area. The aim is to reduce the number of horses to the low Appropriate Management Level, which has been set at 612. All activities related to the gather will comply with the Comprehensive Animal Welfare Program, ensuring that no new ground disturbances occur, and no additional rights are granted under this action. Temporary trap sites and related facilities will be established in areas that have already been disturbed, in accordance with cultural resource review requirements.
