New Fiber Optic Line Project Approved in Nevada to Boost Broadband Access
In a significant development for Nevada’s broadband infrastructure, the Bureau of Land Management has given the green light to Zayo Group, LLC for the construction of an underground fiber optic line. This line will stretch from Spanish Springs Canyon, east of Sparks, to just west of Clark, near the Estuary Solar Farm, running north of Interstate 80 (I-80) through Washoe County.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance internet connectivity in the region. The new fiber optic line will share a corridor with the Nevada Middle Mile Project, spearheaded by the State of Nevada’s Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology (OSIT). The overarching aim of OSIT’s project is to expand broadband access, minimize data transmission delays, and bolster the resilience and reliability of long-distance networks.
By aligning with the requirements of the MOBILE NOW Act and Executive Order 138212, the Middle Mile Project is dedicated to providing affordable and dependable high-speed broadband to all Americans. This initiative not only promises to improve internet services but also strengthens the infrastructure needed for future technological advancements.
