BLM Announces Additional Oil and Gas Lease Sale in Nevada for 2026

BLM Announces New Lease Sale Following Lack of Interest in Previous Auction

RENO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is set to conduct an additional oil and gas lease sale on September 30, 2026, offering 14 parcels that span a total of 20,600.11 acres across Nevada. This move is in response to the Working Families Tax Cut Act, mandating a replacement sale when 25% or more of the acreage from a previous sale goes without bids.

The initial auction, held on September 16, 2026, saw no bids on the 14 parcels available. This lack of interest triggered the requirement for a subsequent sale under the provisions of the Working Families Tax Cut Act, ensuring that opportunities for energy development remain available.

Following Executive Order 14154, titled “Unleashing American Energy,” BLM’s lease auctions are pivotal in meeting the energy demands of the nation and maintaining its status as a global energy leader. The BLM adheres to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and other legislative frameworks to ensure responsible development.

Leasing marks the commencement of federal oil and gas resource development. Operators must apply for a drilling permit, outlining their plans, before any development can start. This application undergoes a rigorous review process by the BLM, including public posting, environmental assessments, and coordination with state entities and stakeholders.

All parcels included in federal lease sales are subject to stipulations designed to safeguard critical natural resources. Current and forthcoming BLM leases can be explored via the National Fluid Lease Sale System. These sales are conducted online through Efficient Markets.

Detailed analyses of the parcels, along with maps and protest submission guidelines, are accessible on the BLM’s ePlanning website at: BLM National NEPA Register | DOI-BLM-NV-E020-2026-0008-EA Project Home.
