Lehigh’s College of Education Strengthens Research and Practice Ties
Under the leadership of a dedicated director, Lehigh University’s College of Education has reinforced its integration of research with practical application, according to Provost Nathan Urban. Speaking to an attentive audience, Urban commended the strides taken under this guidance, especially during a dynamic period for federal and educational research funding.
“She’s done this during a time when the changing landscape for federal funding, and in particular, research funding for colleges of education has been moving more quickly than ever before in any other discipline. She’s met these rapid changes with the recognition that change is needed, and a keen sense of the core work of the college that must be preserved,” Urban remarked.
The director, Hojnoski, expressed her gratitude towards the board of trustees, leadership at the university, her colleagues, and family for their unwavering support throughout her career. “It is wonderful to look out into this room because I recognize that each of you has played a role in my journey,” she said, reflecting on her professional growth alongside her personal life, mentioning her daughter’s growth at the institution as well.
During her studies, Hojnoski often viewed Lehigh’s College of Education as a benchmark for excellence in impactful research and transformative graduate education. “I often questioned why I was sitting in a class at UMass Amherst, and not in a classroom at Lehigh University,” she recalled. Eventually joining Lehigh, she appreciated the opportunity to contribute to such a distinguished college.
As the event concluded, Hojnoski reinforced her commitment to guiding the college through its next phase. “The work we do is more important now than ever,” she stated. “I want to thank you for joining in this journey as the COE enters its next phase, fulfilling our responsibility as leaders in education and ensuring a better tomorrow.”
