BLM Closes North Reno Recreation Area Due to Wildfire Safety Concerns

Temporary Closure of North Reno Recreation Area Due to Wildfire

A wildfire has prompted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to temporarily close public access to the North Reno Recreation Area, commonly known as Moon Rocks. The closure encompasses all public lands within a 10-mile radius of Moon Rocks, including a prohibition on camping activities.

The decision aims to ensure public safety while facilitating efficient operations for wildfire management. Access to the area is limited to BLM staff, essential fire and law enforcement personnel, emergency medical services, and individuals escorted by BLM personnel as per the closure order.

This region, which spans approximately 19,050 acres, includes the Dogskin Mountains, parts of Hungry Valley, and the popular Moon Rocks play area. BLM, alongside its partners, prioritizes conducting safe and effective firefighting operations, utilizing the latest techniques and equipment to safeguard human health and safety.

The closure order is available for review at https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=192E634F-C795-F111-AB0F-001DD803D7D3. For more information, contact (775) 885-6000.
