BLM Approves Right-of-Way for Vista 4 Water Tank Near Sparks, NV

In a move to bolster water supply and fire protection capabilities in the region, the Sierra Front Field Office has given the go-ahead for the Truckee Meadows Water Authority to establish the Vista 4 Water Tank and an access road near Sparks, Nevada. This initiative aims to support the area’s growing infrastructure needs.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will provide a long-term right-of-way (ROW) covering 6.2 acres. This ROW will facilitate the construction and operation of crucial infrastructure including a 20-foot-wide access road, utilities, drainage systems, power lines, and two sizeable steel water tanks. Each tank is designed to be 50 feet in diameter and 24 feet in height, mounted on concrete pads with paved access. Additionally, the project will feature a transformer, telemetry cabinet, antennas, and a nine-foot earth-tone chain-link fence.

In line with environmental stewardship, the project incorporates BLM’s best management practices. These include measures like erosion control, timing restrictions to protect wildlife, dust suppression, cleaning of equipment to prevent the spread of invasive species, and strategies to avoid sensitive resources. According to environmental assessments, the project is not expected to cause significant impacts. Further details can be found in the Decision Record available here.
