Our annual District 5 Summer Basketball and Volleyball Program is underway, giving hundreds of students from the Cartwright School District the opportunity to stay active, build new skills, and connect with their peers in a positive environment. Offered at no cost to participating families, the program provides local youth with structured activities during the summer while promoting teamwork, discipline, confidence, and healthy habits.
We are proud to continue supporting a program that brings students, families, coaches, and community partners together. Thank you to everyone who helps make this annual tradition possible and creates a safe, welcoming space for District 5 youth to learn, compete, and have fun.
Pride Coffee & S’Mores

District 5 was proud to host a morning Coffee & S’Mores event in celebration of Pride Month. County employees came together to enjoy coffee and a sweet treat while recognizing the importance of creating an inclusive workplace where every employee feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
Maricopa County Human Resources also joined the event to share helpful information and giveaways, while the Maricopa County Elections Department provided details about election worker opportunities available to County employees. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this celebration both informative and meaningful.
Juneteenth Luncheon

Maricopa County employees came together for a special Juneteenth luncheon focused on education, reflection, and the lasting significance of this important day in American history. Our guest speaker, Nathan Smith, delivered a thoughtful and engaging presentation that helped attendees better understand the history of Juneteenth and its continued impact on our communities.
Nathan serves as Chief Executive Officer of Central Arizona Shelter Services and brings more than 18 years of experience serving individuals and families in need. His background includes street outreach, case management, program leadership, behavioral health services, and efforts to address food and housing insecurity. His commitment to serving vulnerable communities added a meaningful perspective to the luncheon.
We were also honored to welcome Board of Supervisors Chair Kate Brophy McGee and Constable Mahogany Kennedy. We thank them, Nathan Smith, and all County employees who attended and helped make this event a meaningful opportunity to learn, reflect, and recognize the importance of Juneteenth.
