Hendersonville Man Faces Felony Charges for Insurance Fraud
A significant case of insurance fraud has emerged in Hendersonville, North Carolina, involving a resident accused of multiple felonies. Ian Victor Eisnaugle, aged 41, was apprehended and charged with insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense, and common law forgery, as announced by North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey.
The charges stem from allegations by the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division that Eisnaugle deceived Auto-Owners Insurance Co. by filing fraudulent housing invoices in relation to an insurance claim.
The arrest warrant specifies that Eisnaugle acquired $43,096.84 from Auto-Owners Insurance by deliberately submitting a falsified written statement and forging rental invoices for a property he did not occupy at the time of the claim. This led to his arrest on June 16, where he was subsequently held under a $25,000 secured bond.
Commissioner Causey emphasized the broader impact of such fraudulent activities on the community, stating, “Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime. It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.” He urged residents of North Carolina to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in maintaining lower insurance premiums across the state.
To report suspected insurance fraud or related white-collar crimes, individuals can contact the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll-free at 888-680-7684. Reports can be made anonymously, ensuring that citizens can report without fear of reprisal.
