Massive Job Boost as JetZero Commences Construction on Innovative Facility in North Carolina
In a significant development for the aerospace industry, Governor Josh Stein, along with local and state officials, celebrated the groundbreaking of JetZero’s pioneering commercial airplane manufacturing plant at Piedmont Triad International Airport. This project is poised to create over 14,500 high-paying jobs, marking it as the largest economic development initiative in North Carolina’s history based on employment commitments.
Governor Josh Stein expressed optimism, stating, “Today a great new chapter in North Carolina’s storied history of flight is taking off. JetZero’s decision to build here is a vote of confidence in North Carolina’s workforce, our universities and community colleges, and our long aerospace tradition. These 14,500 jobs and $4.7 billion in investment will transform the Triad region for generations. North Carolina is not only First in Flight; we are also the future of flight.”
Lee Lilley, North Carolina Commerce Secretary, highlighted the project’s significance, saying, “Today’s groundbreaking marks the beginning of a project that will prove to be a leader in both aerospace and advanced materials. What JetZero is building is a powerful example of how investments in people, places, and partnerships help make North Carolina First in Opportunity.”
JetZero’s CEO and co-founder, Tom O’Leary, added, “Today is the start of something new — not just for JetZero, but for how aircraft are built in America. By using the best digital tools available before we break ground, we’ve designed a factory that can grow and change with us. That means we can deliver better aircraft, faster, for our customers and our country.”
JetZero’s Vision: Advanced Technology and Economic Impact
Last June, Governor Stein announced the company’s plans to establish an advanced facility for a unique commercial all-wing jet and a cutting-edge research center focusing on composite structures. This ambitious $4.7 billion venture is expected to boost the state’s economy by over $250 billion.
North Carolina: A Hub for Aerospace Growth
With more than 400 aerospace companies already established in North Carolina, the state continues to expand its aerospace footprint. Earlier this year, Governor Stein celebrated the opening of PSA Airlines’ new headquarters in Charlotte, which is anticipated to generate 400 jobs and contribute over $228 million annually to the state’s economic output.
In another significant move, GE Aerospace announced a $160 million investment across four locations in North Carolina, enhancing its existing workforce of 2,000 employees, 20% of whom are veterans. Additionally, plans for a nearly $53 million investment in West Jefferson, creating 44 new jobs, were unveiled, marking another step in strengthening the aerospace sector in the state.
