NCDOT to Expand Northcross Drive: $20.8M Project Enhances Connectivity

Significant Roadway Expansion Set to Enhance Connectivity in North Mecklenburg County

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has embarked on a substantial project aimed at boosting transportation links between Cornelius and Huntersville. This $20.8 million venture is set to expand Northcross Drive, promising to enhance mobility in the region.

The key aspect of this development involves Sealand Contractors Corp. taking charge of the construction. They will extend the roadway for 1.75 miles, connecting N.C. 73 to Westmoreland Road. An additional feature of the project includes the installation of a new roundabout at the Westmoreland Road/Eagleridge Way Lane intersection in Cornelius.

The project is poised to commence as early as this fall, with the primary roadway construction expected to reach completion by fall 2026. Following this, efforts to establish landscaping and vegetation are projected to continue through to spring 2027.
