New Expansion Approved for Pinyon Trail System in Nevada
The Bureau of Land Management’s Sierra Front Field Office has given the green light to expand the Pinyon Trail System in Douglas County, Nevada. This initiative, put forward by the Carson Valley Trails Association, will introduce roughly three miles of fresh, non-motorized trail routes to the existing 5.2-mile Pinyon Trail. This trail is situated seven miles east of Gardnerville on public lands managed by BLM.
The trail enhancements are designed for hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers, and dogs, while also facilitating non-motorized Special Recreation Permit activities. Construction will be completed using only hand tools, ensuring compliance with U.S. Forest Service standard trail specifications. The project aligns with NEPA guidelines under a categorical exclusion for trail construction, with an environmental review confirming no significant effects on wildlife, vegetation, cultural resources, or sensitive areas. Pre-construction botanical and nesting bird surveys will be conducted to further safeguard the environment.
The full Decision Record can be accessed on the Project Home Page.
