Two-week deadline for FEMA assistance after April storms in Wisconsin

Deadline Approaches for FEMA Assistance and SBA Loans After Wisconsin Flooding

Residents in Wisconsin affected by the severe storms and flooding from April 13-23 must act quickly to apply for federal aid. With the application deadline set for Monday, August 31, 2026, individuals have just two weeks left to seek assistance from FEMA or apply for an SBA home disaster loan.

Eligible homeowners and renters in counties including Bayfield, Brown, Buffalo, and others, as well as the Oneida Nation, may qualify for federal aid if they have uninsured damages to their primary residence or personal belongings. Those impacted should apply either online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362, or by visiting a local disaster recovery center, which can be located via fema.gov/drc.

Ensuring Safety of Heating Systems

Even with summer in full swing, those affected by the April storms should inspect their heating systems. FEMA grants may cover repairs or replacements for damaged furnaces and water heaters. If further issues are found post-grant, individuals can appeal for additional funding within 60 days of grant receipt, supported by a contractor’s estimate.

How to Appeal FEMA Decisions

Disagree with FEMA’s decision or the aid amount? An appeal can be submitted within 60 days of receiving the FEMA letter. The appeal form, typically included at the end of the FEMA letter, provides a structured way to present additional information. Appeals can be submitted online, in person at a Disaster Recovery Center, mailed, or faxed. It’s crucial to include your full name, contact details, disaster number, and the address of the affected property on all documents.

For detailed appeal instructions, visit FEMA.gov/appeal.
