Urgent Reminder for Wisconsin Residents Affected by April 2026 Storms
Time is running out for residents of Wisconsin who were affected by the severe storms and flooding from April 13-23, 2026. Individuals and households have until August 31 to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or to secure a physical disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle emphasized the importance of this deadline, stating, “The deadline is more than just a date on a calendar, it is an opportunity to access federal resources to recover and move forward.” Residents are encouraged to apply promptly to ensure they receive the necessary support for home repairs and other disaster-related needs.
In the wake of the disaster, over $44.1 million has been distributed to 16,391 survivors across multiple counties including Bayfield, Brown, Buffalo, and others, as well as the Oneida Nation.
Application Methods for Federal Assistance
Homeowners and renters eligible for FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program in designated areas have three application options. If insurance settlements fall short of covering damages, SBA loans can be a viable alternative for addressing additional repair needs. These loans can be used for home repairs, personal property, and vehicle damages.
For businesses, the SBA offers physical disaster loans to repair or replace damaged property, including real estate and equipment. Non-profit organizations such as charities and private universities can also apply for up to $2 million in damages. To apply or inquire, individuals can:
