In a tragic event early Thursday morning, Chesapeake authorities were alerted to a distressing situation that resulted in the deaths of three children and a woman in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide.
At approximately 7 a.m., police received a request for a welfare check at a residence on the 3000 block of Welcome Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the situation involved an armed woman inside the home, prompting them to retreat and set up a secure perimeter.
Specialized tactical teams, along with negotiators, were deployed to manage the delicate situation. Over the course of a 90-minute negotiation, it was revealed that three children had already been found deceased within the residence. The tactical team subsequently entered the home and discovered the woman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As of now, the ages of the children and their connection to the deceased woman have not been disclosed, pending notification of their next of kin.
