Linde Inc. to Invest $75M in New Northampton County Facility, Create Jobs

Linde Inc. Expands Operations with New Facility in Northampton County, North Carolina

In a significant economic boost for Northampton County, Linde Inc., a global leader in industrial gases and engineering, is set to establish a new air separation facility in Garysburg. This venture, announced by Governor Josh Stein, promises to bring 20 new jobs to the area alongside an investment exceeding $75 million.

Governor Josh Stein emphasized the strategic advantages of North Carolina, stating, “Not only is North Carolina centrally located on the East Coast with the strong transportation infrastructure that manufacturers and distributors need, but, more importantly, it’s also home to the talented North Carolinians who helped secure our ranking as the top state for workforce development.”

The new facility will be a part of the Northampton County Commerce Park. Linde Inc. will focus on producing argon, nitrogen, and oxygen, which are essential for industries such as healthcare, electronics, food and beverage, and chemical manufacturing. These gases will be directly delivered to customers, enhancing service reliability and efficiency.

Todd Lawson, Vice President, East Region of Linde Inc., highlighted the strategic location choice: “We chose this location based on its proximity to customers and the support of Northampton County. This new air separation unit will strengthen Linde’s presence in the state and extend our strong merchant gases supply network to increase our ability to reliably serve our customers’ current and future needs.”

For the community, the project signals economic resilience and growth. N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley remarked, “Linde’s decision to build in Northampton County validates the community’s resilience and strength. Companies like Linde grow the supply chain of our thriving life sciences ecosystem, and when they choose rural North Carolina, they affirm North Carolina’s position as the best place for business in every corner of the state.”

The introduction of these jobs is expected to generate an annual payroll impact of over $1.75 million for the region. To support this development, Linde Inc. will receive a performance-based grant of $60,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. This fund aids local governments in attracting economic investments and job creation, with companies required to meet specific growth targets to qualify for funding. Local government participation is a prerequisite for the grant.

N.C. Representative Rodney D. Pierce welcomed the initiative, stating, “We welcome Linde and its investments in our people and our community, and we stand ready to support the company as it executes its growth strategy.” Similarly, N.C. Senator Bobby Hanig expressed pride in the efforts of regional partners, noting, “This is outstanding news that will be a great return on investment for Northampton County and the region.”

The endeavor is supported by a coalition of partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, the North Carolina Community College System, the Golden LEAF Foundation, Northampton County, Northampton County Economic Development Commission, and Dominion Energy.
