In a significant boost to North Carolina’s economic landscape, Governor Josh Stein participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for Johnson & Johnson’s upcoming facility in Wilson. This new venture underscores the pivotal role of biotechnology in the state, with the governor presenting an official state flag to signify the importance of this development.
Governor Josh Stein stated, “Biotechnology is one of our state’s largest and fastest growing economic sectors. North Carolina has a strong infrastructure to support the life science industry, and I am pleased that Johnson & Johnson chose Wilson as the site of its new facility. I look forward to partnering with the Johnson & Johnson team to expand economic opportunity and high-quality jobs to every corner of our state.”
Jennifer Taubert, Executive Vice President and Worldwide Chairman of Innovative Medicine at Johnson & Johnson, emphasized the company’s commitment, saying, “We are pleased to make this significant investment in our manufacturing network in the United States. This state-of-the-art biologics facility in North Carolina will help Johnson & Johnson to accelerate the delivery of our portfolio and pipeline of transformational medicines for patients. This $2 billion investment will bring more than 5,000 high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs to North Carolina and the partnerships we are forging in the community will support local educational initiatives to develop the workforce of the future.”
Governor Stein is actively working to maintain North Carolina’s reputation as a leading business hub while driving innovation and job creation. The state is a hub for over 830 life science companies, collectively providing more than 225,000 jobs. The new Johnson & Johnson facility is set to create 420 positions, offering salaries that exceed the average in Wilson County. Since Stein took office, the state has seen over 1,500 new jobs, with a majority emerging in rural areas.
