Major Traffic Adjustments Ahead for Complete 540 Project in Raleigh
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is progressing with the southern expansion of the Complete 540 Project, aiming to stretch the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40. This development involves significant traffic changes that commuters should note.
Due to adverse weather, the planned closures of U.S. 401 and Donny Brook Road have been rescheduled. These will now occur from approximately 9:00 p.m. on July 26 through 5:00 a.m. on July 28, and from 5:00 a.m. on July 28 through 5:00 a.m. on July 29.
Starting around 9:00 p.m. on July 26, U.S. 401 between Donny Brook Road and W. Allen Street will be closed to all traffic until 5:00 a.m. on July 28. However, local access south of Ten Ten Road will remain available. Motorists are encouraged to avoid this area if possible, and those who must travel here should follow the designated detour signs.

For those needing to travel north of the closure on U.S. 401, the detour is as follows:
- Head north on U.S. 401
- Turn left onto Donny Brook Road
- Turn right onto Lake Wheeler Road
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road

To reach U.S. 401 south of the closure, drivers should follow this detour:
- Head south on U.S. 401
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road
- Turn left onto Lake Wheeler Road
- Turn left onto Donny Brook Road

Following the initial closure, Donny Brook Road at the U.S. 401 intersection will also be closed to through traffic from 5:00 a.m. on July 28 to 5:00 a.m. on July 29. Motorists are again advised to avoid the area and adhere to detour signs if travel is necessary.
