Andrew Hoffmann Named Investment Director at NC State Treasurer’s Office

In a strategic move to bolster its investment strategies, the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer has appointed a seasoned expert to a pivotal new role. The announcement, made by State Treasurer Brad Briner, signifies a step forward in managing the state’s retirement system assets.

New Appointment to Strengthen Investment Management

Andrew Hoffmann has been named Investment Director for the Department of State Treasurer’s Investment Management Division, a role announced today by Briner. His appointment is set to play a significant part in reshaping the investment landscape for the North Carolina Retirement Systems, focusing on asset rebalancing to meet long-term goals and address pension deficits.

Responsibilities and Reporting Structure

In his capacity as Investment Director, Hoffmann will be responsible for sourcing, structuring, and overseeing a diverse array of real assets. These assets include direct investments, co-investments, and secondary investments. Hoffmann will report directly to Chief Investment Officer Kevin SigRist, ensuring alignment with the division’s strategic objectives.

An Experienced Leader in Investment

With more than three decades of experience in real asset investment, Hoffmann brings a wealth of knowledge, particularly in sectors such as energy, utilities, infrastructure, agriculture, and water. He has served in senior roles at prominent financial institutions worldwide, including PIMCO, Brookfield, JP Morgan, and Merrill Lynch. His extensive experience includes executing direct investment transactions across more than a dozen countries. Hoffmann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
