NNSS Showcases STEM Innovations at Las Vegas Science Expo

A Celebration of Innovation: Las Vegas Hosts Major STEM Expo

Las Vegas recently became the epicenter for science enthusiasts as the city hosted Southern Nevada’s largest science and technology event, proudly backed by the NNSS. The Giant Expo, part of the Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival, was held on May 3 at the World Market Center and attracted a diverse crowd of students and families eager to explore the world of STEM.

The event featured a variety of interactive and educational activities, including laser cube displays, karate chopping challenges, 3D imaging scanning, and exciting ZAP launcher demonstrations. One of the standout attractions was the Fire & Rescue activities that engaged attendees of all ages.

Ajanae Williams, an NNSS Supervisor, expressed the significance of early exposure to STEM, stating, “It is important to facilitate early STEM interactions because it allows students to channel their inner curiosity and begin developing skills to find unique solutions to problems.” The expo served as a platform for the NNSS to engage the community and highlight their mission and historical contributions in an enjoyable manner.

The event was organized by the Strategic Engagement & Communications team, who ensured that NNSS STEM leaders could effectively demonstrate and explain the real-world applications of STEM concepts, aligning with the dynamic objectives of the NNSS.

NNSS Engineer Nabil Maatouk shared his personal experience, emphasizing the value of showcasing engineering innovations to inspire future generations. He remarked, “This expo was a unique experience for not only the NNSS, but for me as an engineer. Being able to demonstrate the capabilities and innovations I use every day to accomplish our mission was an excellent forum that hopefully helps to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.”
