Las Vegas Faces Record Home Prices, Evictions Under Lombardo’s Watch

Las Vegas Housing Crisis Intensifies Amid Record-Breaking Home Prices

The Las Vegas housing market has reached unprecedented heights, with the median home price in Southern Nevada hitting a record $485,000 in January, according to a recent report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. This surge in home prices comes as the state grapples with significant challenges in housing affordability.

Under Governor Joe Lombardo’s administration, Nevada has experienced one of the most severe housing crises in the nation. Despite opportunities to mitigate these challenges, Lombardo vetoed several bills aimed at reducing housing costs statewide in 2023. Consequently, Las Vegas now faces some of the highest eviction rates in the U.S., with a 20% increase in homelessness reported in 2024.

Data from Clark County’s annual homeless survey reveals that the number of homeless individuals in Las Vegas is at its highest since 2011. In the past year alone, the region witnessed over 30,000 evictions between Las Vegas and Henderson. On average, 70 eviction cases are processed daily in Clark County’s eviction court, with a 90% success rate for eviction grants.

Nevada State Democratic Party’s Criticism

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:

“While Joe Lombardo consistently attempts to pass the buck on a housing crisis he’s responsible for, the reality is he vetoed Democrat-led legislation that would have lowered housing costs. Lombardo has had more than two years to lower the cost of housing but instead he has catered to the billionaires and special interests that bankrolled his campaign.”
