Flint Introduces Third Ward Ambassadors to Enhance Community Engagement
Flint, MI – In a significant move to bolster community involvement, the City of Flint has introduced two new Ambassadors for the Third Ward, with a third appointment on the horizon. Announced during a press event on Tuesday, Linda Boose and LaShawn Johnson have been named to these pivotal roles, aiming to bridge the gap between local residents and city officials.
The Ambassadors are entrusted with the task of acting as a conduit for communication, ensuring that the perspectives and issues important to Third Ward residents are articulated to city leadership.
Although the Ambassadors will not possess decision-making powers, their role is critical in advising and proposing initiatives that align with the community’s needs. They will be responsible for collecting feedback, facilitating dialogue, and bringing the community’s concerns to the forefront of city discussions.
Ed Taylor, Chief of Staff for the City of Flint, emphasized the significance of these appointments by stating, “The Third Ward Ambassadors are an essential step in strengthening the connection between residents and their city government.” This initiative comes in light of the Third Ward’s lack of representation since the passing of Councilman Murphy in October 2024, which resulted in a breach of the city’s charter requirement for timely appointments. The initiative is designed to ensure residents have a platform to express their ideas and concerns until full representation is reinstated.
Engagement with the community will be a priority for the Ambassadors, who plan to organize meetings and reach out directly to residents. Their collaborative efforts will focus on addressing a range of local issues, including infrastructure, public safety, housing, and economic growth.
