Explore Howell’s StoryWalk: “Tallulah The Mermaid” Adventure Awaits

Embark on a Mermaid Tale: StoryWalk® Unveiled in Downtown Howell

Howell, MI – Downtown Howell invites families and community members to dive into a literary journey with the new “Stories In Storefronts” StoryWalk®. This engaging experience features pages from “Tallulah The Mermaid and the Great Lakes Pledge,” a charming tale by local author Denise Brennan-Nelson, positioned across 16 stops in the area.

This innovative literacy project merges education with outdoor activity as participants walk through various local businesses. Each stop presents an illustrated page from the story alongside an interactive activity, encouraging readers to join Tallulah the Mermaid on her mission to protect the Great Lakes.

Launched during the Howell Carnegie District Library’s Summer Reading Kick-Off, the StoryWalk® is a collaborative effort between Great Start Livingston and Downtown Howell. Supported by a MI-LEAP literacy grant, the initiative aims to promote early literacy, healthy lifestyles, and community participation.

Robin Schutz, Coordinator for Great Start Livingston, expressed enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to bring this literacy adventure to downtown Howell. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support local businesses, enjoy fresh air, and practice reading.”

Families, caregivers, and young readers can enjoy this complimentary activity, available until the end of August. A map of the StoryWalk® route is accessible here.
