Iowa warns against consuming Diamond Shruumz products after illnesses

Health Alert: Iowans Warned Against Consuming Diamond Shruumz Products

Residents of Iowa are advised to exercise caution following reports of severe illnesses linked to the consumption of Diamond Shruumz-brand products. The products in question, which include cookies, cream chocolate bars, and fruit cereal-flavored bars, have been purchased from a store in eastern Iowa. Similar cases have been reported in other states, some of which have resulted in critical conditions.

In response to these incidents, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers, emphasizing the importance of avoiding these products:

  • Refrain from eating, selling, or serving any Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, or Gummies.
  • Inspect homes for these products and discard them if found.
  • Given their potential appeal to children and teenagers, parents and caregivers should discuss the risks with younger individuals.
  • Retailers are advised to stop the sale and distribution of these items and await further instructions on their return or disposal.
  • Anyone feeling unwell after consumption should contact a healthcare provider or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Healthcare professionals should report related illnesses to the local health department or the Poison Help line.

Iowa’s Health and Human Services (HHS) officials strongly advise against purchasing or consuming these items. If already in possession, individuals should dispose of them immediately. The products, classified as dietary supplements, are not under state regulation and cannot be recalled by Iowa authorities. They are commonly sold in consumable hemp retailers, tobacco, and vape shops.

Both Iowa HHS and the FDA are conducting investigations into these incidents. The FDA has also been in discussions with the manufacturing firm about a potential voluntary recall, though no resolution has been reached yet.

Residents of Iowa experiencing severe symptoms are urged to seek emergency medical attention promptly.
