Florida State Parks Offer Free Admission for Veterans and Active-Duty Military on Veterans Day

Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, Olustee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – To honor the bravery and dedication of military personnel, both veterans and those actively serving, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is extending complimentary access to Florida State Parks on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. This gesture is also extended to their families.

“Veterans Day is a time for us to honor our veterans, their sense of duty and the sacrifices they and their families have made that allow us to enjoy the many freedoms we have today,” said Chuck Hatcher, Director of Florida State Parks. “By offering free access to our beautiful state parks, we hope to provide a space for families to come together, honor their service and create lasting memories.”

Numerous state parks in Florida hold historical significance related to military service, having been used as strategic sites and barracks in the past. These parks preserve historical narratives and cultural heritage, offering a venue for reflection. Among these parks are:

  • General James A. Van Fleet State Trail in Polk County, named in honor of a distinguished World War II and Korean War veteran who graduated with notable figures like Dwight D. Eisenhower and Omar Bradley from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1915.
  • Avalon State Park in St. Lucie County, which served as a World War II training ground for the Frogmen, the precursors to the modern Navy SEALs.

Please be aware that Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is excluded from this free entrance offer. Additionally, fees for amenities such as overnight stays, concessions, and rentals will still apply.
