The University of Iowa Pauses Search for Graduate College Leadership
The University of Iowa’s efforts to appoint a new leader for its Graduate College have hit a temporary pause. The search for a new associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, initiated earlier this year, is currently on hold.
Originally launched in February, the internal search process had narrowed down to two promising candidates by April. Despite conducting interviews with various campus stakeholders, the candidate offered the role ultimately decided to pursue another opportunity.
“We appreciate the engagement of our campus community throughout the search process,” stated Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel. “While we’re disappointed the finalist chose not to move forward, we respect their decision and remain focused on identifying the next leader for the Graduate College.”
The need for a new leader arose after Amanda Haertling Thein, who currently holds the position of associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, accepted a new role. Thein is set to become the dean of the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education, starting her new position on July 1.
As the search resumes, the campus will be kept informed of any developments. In the interim, an acting associate provost and dean will be appointed to serve until a permanent successor is found.
