Power Restored, but Temple University Campus Buildings Remain Closed for the Day
Updated at 4:34 p.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 2.
Following a campus-wide power disruption, Temple University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) has confirmed that electricity has been restored to several key buildings, including Mazur and Mitten Halls, as well as the strip along Liacouras Walk from 1900-38. The announcement came through a TUAlert issued at 4:24 p.m.
Despite the restoration of power, the affected buildings will remain closed for the rest of Monday to address temperature issues resulting from the heating outage. Officials have assured that normal operations will resume on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, DPS alerted the university community about the power outage, which led to the cancellation of all in-person classes in the impacted buildings. Students were advised to contact their instructors for guidance regarding their courses, while faculty and staff were encouraged to work remotely.
The power outage also affected several businesses along Liacouras Walk, including Subway, 7-Eleven, and Saxby’s, although 1940 Residence Hall was not impacted.
As for the cause of the outage, DPS stated they are still investigating. “At this time, crews are working to determine a cause,” a spokesperson from DPS informed The Temple News. “Temple will post more information on social media as it becomes available.”
