Clayton University Center Renovations to Finish Early, Opening January 2025

Clayton University Center Set to Reopen Ahead of Schedule with Exciting New Features

Clayton University Center at Packer Hall is on the brink of unveiling its extensive renovations, with completion anticipated earlier than expected. Starting January 2025, the revamped center will welcome students, faculty, and staff to a space that promises to be the bustling nucleus of campus life.

A substantial investment has been made in transforming Clayton University Center into a lively hub for interaction and collaboration within the Lehigh community. The center will house innovative spaces such as the Club Hub, designed for over 200 clubs and organizations, and the Great Room, which will feature relaxing lounge areas and pool tables. Additionally, the Harmon Boardroom, a conference-style meeting room, has been established in memory of Elaine and John J. Harmon ’59 ’83P, thanks to a donation from the Harmon Family. These facilities aim to foster academic, professional, and social engagement, making the center a vibrant community space.

“We are excited to unveil this new space for people to gather and connect in a variety of ways, from collaborating with peers to hosting events or sharing a meal,” said Joseph J. Helble ’82. “I’m deeply grateful to all who have brought this to life, especially Kevin and Lisa Clayton, whose generosity made this project possible.”

Relocation of offices to the new center will commence in the final days of December, continuing through the winter break. This transition ensures that all offices will be operational in their new locations by the time students return for the spring semester.

January Opening Events

To celebrate the reopening, a series of events will unfold over three weeks in January, inviting the entire Lehigh community to explore the renewed space. The opening week’s attractions include a firepit lighting with refreshments, food tastings, paint night, trivia, and a coffeehouse event in the Great Room featuring live music. Tours of the new offices will also be available.

A complete schedule of these events will be released in January, encouraging community members to participate in the celebrations of this beloved space’s revitalization.

“The Clayton University Center has been a top priority for university leadership, and opening ahead of schedule is a reflection of our commitment to the project,” said Chris Cook, interim vice president for finance and administration. “We are eager to welcome all members of our community into the lively reimagined space.”

Introducing New Dining Experiences

January will also see the debut of several new dining options within Clayton University Center, including the Lehigh Pub, a European-inspired bistro serving lunch and dinner. Meal deals will be available for one meal swipe. Other eateries offering diverse cuisines will gradually open over the three-week period.

“We have thoughtfully developed a diverse range of dining options and cuisines to meet the needs of the community and we hope people will want to visit again and again,” said David Joseph, executive director of auxiliary services.

During the initial days, there will be exclusive discounts (accessible via Grubhub), giveaways, and tastings. Feedback will be collected to tailor dining services to community preferences. Additionally, a “Take Your Student/Faculty to Lunch” program is set to launch in the spring semester.

Future Plans

The reopening underscores the University’s dedication to fostering community and connectivity within Clayton University Center. A formal Grand Opening Celebration and Building Dedication are scheduled for fall 2025.

There remain opportunities to support the project at various levels. Further details can be found here.
