Young Researchers Honored with Prestigious Sloan Fellowship
Every year, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation recognizes the achievements of early-career researchers across the United States and Canada by awarding them the Sloan Research Fellowship. This year, 126 promising researchers have been selected to receive this prestigious honor, celebrating their contributions to their respective fields.
The Sloan Research Fellowship, established in 1955, is one of the most sought-after awards for young scientists, with many past fellows going on to receive notable accolades such as the Nobel Prize and the National Medal of Science. President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Adam F. Falk, emphasizes the significance of this award: “The Sloan Research Fellows represent the very best of early-career science, embodying the creativity, ambition, and rigor that drive discovery forward.”
Each year, more than 1,000 researchers are nominated by their peers, and the selection process involves independent panels of senior scholars who assess candidates based on their research accomplishments and potential for leadership in their fields. The fellowship is open to scholars in seven disciplines: chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics.
Daniel L. Goroff, Director of the Sloan Research Fellowship program, highlights the rigorous selection process: “The selection of Sloan Research Fellows is a rigorous and community-driven process. From the institutions that nominate outstanding candidates, to the senior scholars who carefully evaluate each nomination, this award is the result of a collaborative commitment to recognizing and supporting today’s most promising researchers.”
Recipients of the fellowship will receive a two-year grant of $75,000, which they can use flexibly to support their research endeavors. The full list of this year’s awardees is available here. A comprehensive database of past and present Sloan Research Fellows can also be accessed here.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, established in 1934, is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and improving welfare through grantmaking in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and economics. The Foundation’s efforts have led to the creation of influential scientific institutions and have supported the development of numerous scientific fields.
Nominations for the 2026 Sloan Research Fellowships are set to open on July 15, 2026.
