Governor Whitmer Announces New Development Initiatives
LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has unveiled a pair of significant economic initiatives in Northwestern Michigan, anticipated to foster 144 well-paying jobs alongside a capital investment of $4.35 million. The projects involve expanding Highfield Boats’ assembly operations in Wexford County and enhancing Cambium Analytica’s natural food testing capabilities in Grand Traverse County.
Governor Whitmer emphasized, “Today’s projects will create 144 good-paying jobs and continue growing the economy in Wexford and Grand Traverse counties. From expanding operations at Highfield Boats to enhancing food testing capabilities at Cambium Analytica, these investments will create more opportunities for workers while helping two leading companies in their respective fields grow.”
Highfield Boats Expands in Cadillac
Highfield Boats, a global leader in aluminum rigid inflatable boats, is set to expand its production capabilities in Cadillac, Wexford County. This expansion is projected to generate over $3.1 million in investment and create 110 new jobs. Supported by a $990,000 Michigan Business Development Program grant, the new facility will focus on hull and assembly production, employing a diverse workforce across multiple specialties.
Christophe Lavigne, President of Highfield USA, remarked, “Our investment in Michigan marks the company’s first major investment to the U.S. market and we chose Cadillac for its rich legacy in recreational boat building and the unwavering support of both the local and statewide communities.”
Cambium Analytica Enhances Testing Capabilities
Cambium Analytica, based in Traverse City, is expanding its laboratory testing capabilities, with a focus on natural foods and dietary supplements. This initiative, backed by a $200,000 grant, aims to invest $1.2 million and create 34 new jobs, further strengthening the region’s scientific research sector.
Co-Founder and CEO Alex Adams stated, “Turquoise Environmental has built its new PFAS testing laboratory in Traverse City, a community that deeply values the protection of Michigan’s natural resources.”
