Sunlit Fluo & Chemical Co. Ltd. Launches First U.S. Facility to Boost Semiconductor Supply Chain
PHOENIX, AZ (October 23, 2024) – Taiwan-based semiconductor chemical giant, Sunlit Fluo & Chemical Co. Ltd., has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility outside Asia. The new establishment in Phoenix, Arizona, named Sunlit Arizona, LLC, is poised to play a pivotal role in fortifying the U.S. semiconductor supply chain by delivering essential materials for semiconductor manufacturing.
In an auspicious ceremony, Governor Katie Hobbs, alongside Sunlit Group President Bryan Lin, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Sandra Watson of the Arizona Commerce Authority, and Chris Camacho from the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, celebrated the plant’s opening.
Sunlit’s $100 million investment in this 900,000-square-foot facility marks a significant expansion into the U.S. market. Located on 27 acres, the plant is designed for the efficient production of high-purity hydrofluoric acid and other critical chemicals essential for semiconductor production. This new venture positions Sunlit as a vital partner to more than 200 semiconductor-related companies in Arizona, contributing to the state’s burgeoning advanced manufacturing sector.
Governor Katie Hobbs remarked, “Arizona’s semiconductor industry is booming, and Sunlit’s new manufacturing facility is the latest example of that. Sunlit Arizona will create good-paying jobs and strengthen our manufacturing ecosystem. Through partnership and innovation, we will continue to solidify ourselves as the nation’s semiconductor powerhouse and create a thriving economy for all Arizonans.”
According to Bryan Lin, President of Sunlit Group, “Opening Sunlit Arizona is a major step forward in our company’s growth and innovation journey. This facility will help semiconductor producers in Arizona and across the U.S. meet their production goals while advancing the technologies critical to the future of this industry.”
Arizona has emerged as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing, with over 40 semiconductor companies setting up since 2020. These developments have led to more than $100 billion in investments and over 16,000 new jobs. Greater Phoenix, home to major industry players, provides a collaborative environment fostering innovation and strengthening the region’s advanced manufacturing leadership.
Sunlit’s new plant is expected to enhance this ecosystem significantly. The initial phase will create over 50 local jobs by early 2025, with plans to expand the workforce to 100 as production scales.
“We are incredibly excited to celebrate this milestone with Sunlit to advance Arizona’s semiconductor industry,” expressed Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Sunlit was one of the first Taiwan-based semiconductor suppliers to commit to Arizona and we look forward to supporting their success.”
Greater Phoenix boasts one of the largest semiconductor talent pools in the country, with over 140,000 professionals in relevant fields. Arizona universities contribute to this talent pool with 2,000 specialized graduates annually, supported by over 35,000 students enrolled in engineering programs statewide, as reported by GPEC. This pipeline is crucial for Sunlit’s long-term growth and the semiconductor industry’s expansion in the region.
Mayor Kate Gallego commented, “Phoenix prides itself on being a city where innovation and opportunity meet, and I am so glad that message resonated with Sunlit when I met with their leadership over the years and again in Taiwan last summer.”
Chris Camacho, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, added, “Sunlit’s five decades of high-quality production further broadens the local supply chain and provides companies an opportunity to work with another world-leader in chemical manufacturing.”
