Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania is setting its sights on becoming a top destination for travelers with a newly launched initiative aimed at drawing visitors from near and far. The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Deputy Secretary of Tourism, Anne Ryan, has announced the start of applications for the Marketing to Attract Tourists Program. This program is designed to inject $6 million into efforts to boost overnight tourism stays, inviting international, national, and regional visitors to explore Pennsylvania’s rich historical sites, vibrant towns, gourmet restaurants, thrilling outdoor experiences, and premier events.

Governor Josh Shapiro’s bipartisan 2024-25 budget earmarks $15 million for tourism marketing. This investment is part of a broader strategy to bolster the state’s economy and create well-paying jobs by promoting the Great American Getaway brand. The aim is to attract millions of potential visitors who live just a few hours’ drive away.

“Tourism generates over $76 billion a year for Pennsylvania’s economy and supports more than 486,000 jobs,” stated DCED Deputy Secretary of Tourism Ryan. “The Shapiro Administration recognizes that tourism benefits nearly every corner of our Commonwealth. The Marketing to Attract Tourists Program will create demand for new visitor experiences, destinations, and events that in turn will give Pennsylvanians more opportunities to pursue their passion, support their families, and thrive.”
