Industrial Gas Giant Linde Inc. to Establish New Facility in Northampton County, North Carolina
Linde Inc., a prominent player in the industrial gases and engineering sector, is set to bolster its presence in North Carolina with the construction of a new air separation facility in Garysburg. This significant venture, with a capital investment exceeding $75 million, is expected to generate 20 new jobs in Northampton County.
Governor Josh Stein expressed enthusiasm for Linde’s expansion, stating, “I am pleased to welcome Linde to Northampton County.” He highlighted North Carolina’s strategic location on the East Coast, robust transportation infrastructure, and skilled workforce as key factors contributing to the state’s top ranking in workforce development.
The new plant at Northampton County Commerce Park will facilitate the production of argon, nitrogen, and oxygen. These industrial gases will cater to sectors such as health care, electronics, food and beverage, and chemical industries, supporting activities from hospital services to semiconductor manufacturing and food preservation.
Todd Lawson, Vice President of Linde’s East Region, emphasized the strategic choice of location, saying, “We chose this location based on its proximity to customers and the support of Northampton County.” The facility is expected to enhance Linde’s supply network, ensuring reliable service to meet both current and future customer demands.
N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted that Linde’s decision underscores the strength and resilience of the local community. He remarked on the company’s role in expanding the supply chain within the state’s burgeoning life sciences ecosystem and affirmed North Carolina’s reputation as a prime business destination.
The introduction of these new roles is projected to infuse more than $1.75 million annually into the local economy. To support Linde’s growth, a $60,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund has been allocated. This fund aids local governments in attracting economic investments and job creation, with disbursements contingent upon meeting specific job and capital investment objectives.
Local officials, including N.C. Representative Rodney D. Pierce, have welcomed Linde’s investment, promising community support for the company’s growth strategies. N.C. Senator Bobby Hanig praised the collaborative effort of state and local entities that facilitated this development, calling it a significant boon for Northampton County and the surrounding region.
The project is the result of concerted efforts by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and several other key partners, including the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, and Dominion Energy.
