Raleigh Launches New Online System for Unemployment Work Search Tracking
Residents in several northeastern counties of North Carolina will soon benefit from a new digital system designed to streamline the tracking of work search activities for unemployment claims. Starting March 23, the N.C. Division of Employment Security (DES) is implementing an online platform for claimants in Northampton, Hertford, Gates, Camden, Pasquotank, Chowan, Perquimans, Currituck, Bertie, Halifax, Martin, Washington, Tyrrell, Dare, Pitt, Beaufort, and Hyde counties.
This development is part of a broader statewide effort aimed at modernizing unemployment insurance processes. Further details on the implementation timeline can be found at des.nc.gov/work-search-activities.
Assistant Secretary M. Antwon Keith of DES expressed enthusiasm about the new system, stating, “This new online record-keeping feature provides our customers with a more secure way to track their work search activities. This is another feather in our cap while we continue to streamline unemployment insurance processes in North Carolina.” The phased approach to this rollout is designed to minimize disruption to current claims and operational procedures.
Unemployment claimants are required to reach out to three different employers each week, maintain a record of these efforts, register with NCWorks, and remain available for work. Under the new system, individuals who file new claims from March 23 onwards in the specified counties must log their work search activities in the MyNCUIBenefits system before completing their weekly certification. Existing claimants will continue with their current method of maintaining a hard copy of their work search records.
The MyNCUIBenefits system will serve as a repository for all logged work searches, enabling claimants to download their records as needed. This digital shift promises to simplify the process and improve efficiency in benefit disbursement. “This change is part of the division’s ongoing efforts to modernize the unemployment process, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient payments to those who are entitled to receive them,” added Assistant Secretary Keith. He emphasized that logging searches online will help reduce errors and support successful outcomes for claimants.
To aid users in navigating the new system, DES provides various resources, including a video tutorial and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document, accessible at des.nc.gov/work-search-activities.
