AVL Manufacturing to Open New Facility in Charlotte, Bringing Over 325 Jobs to the Area
AVL Manufacturing, a Canadian company known for its industrial power generator enclosures, has chosen Charlotte, North Carolina, as the site for its new production facility in the United States. This expansion is expected to create more than 325 jobs in the region and represents a $56 million investment in Mecklenburg County.
Governor Josh Stein emphasized the state’s appeal for manufacturing businesses, stating, “North Carolina’s reputation for advanced manufacturing continues to attract great companies like AVL Manufacturing to our state. With the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeast and excellent community colleges, North Carolina is home to the resources that world-class companies depend on.”
As a recently established entity of AVL Manufacturing, AVL USA, Inc. will focus on producing custom enclosures for standby power generators. These products are crucial for ensuring power redundancy in data centers and are also utilized across various industries, including automotive, automation, construction, and emergency management.
Vince Dicristofaro, president of AVL, expressed enthusiasm about the new location, noting, “After considering many markets, we are thrilled that AVL’s entrance into the U.S. market is in Charlotte, a vibrant, tech-forward city perfect for us to lay down roots. We didn’t just choose a location; we chose a community.”
Supporting the project is a performance-based grant of $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund. This grant is contingent on the creation of 122 jobs, with an average salary of $90,088, surpassing the current average wage in Mecklenburg County of $86,830. The OneNC Fund aids local governments in attracting economic investments and requires matching grants from local authorities.
Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted the significance of international investments, stating, “It’s great to see the confidence AVL and its parent company have placed in North Carolina by establishing their first U.S.-based location in Charlotte.”
Local leaders, including Representative Terry Brown, Jr., welcomed AVL’s decision, emphasizing the economic benefits for the community. “AVL’s decision only highlights the fact that Steele Creek is becoming the economic engine for our region,” stated Brown.
The collaborative effort to bring AVL to North Carolina involved various partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, Mecklenburg County, and the City of Charlotte. Senator DeAndrea Salvador praised the teamwork involved, saying, “Economic development takes a collaborative effort from state, regional, and local partners.”
